Free left;left free?

I have been driving two-wheelers for over 10 years now (yes, the height remained that same since then, and yes, I can reach the ground while driving). When I started driving, I was all excited. I thought I was the youngest girl to hit the road and I often came to the conclusion that people stare at me in awe. Little did I know about the attitude of drivers in the city. Most of my peers and their parents kept asking me if I wasn’t scared of the roads. I used to wonder why I should be. I learned why the hard way.

I drive in the city that has been branded as having the worst traffic ever, in all of Asia. Every non-Hyderabadi comments on the rash driving of the auto-wallahs and every Hyderabadi swears at him(He/she swears while driving, in general). You know you can’t cut across and take that right. It’s a one-way. You do it anyway, much to the agony of the “followers”. I’m driving in the centre of the road, there’s a public transport vehicle in front of me, that’s moving painfully slowly. And he NEVER keeps left. So, I’m overtaking from left. Where did you come from suddenly? And you also want to overtake the bus. Ok, I slow down to let you go, why do you slow down and parallely go with me? We both cant overtake the bus at the same time. The jackass might suddenly swerve left (Bus stops in Hyd absolutely don’t have shelters, you won’t have the slightest of clues as to where the stop is). I’m slowing down to let you go, why the hell do you also want to let me go at the same time? Are you really THAT chivalrous?

When I’m driving on a road full of speed-breakers, I’m always accompanied by you, the “kewl dyude” who has to maintain the same speed as me. I brake, you brake. I raise, you also raise to the same speed. I stop for the stupid bus to move, you don’t have to stop, no bus is hindering you, but you still do! In case your friend’s pillion-riding, your conversations are like this#:

You: “Rei, aame natho poti petdundi ra!” (Hey, she’s trying to compete with me!”)*

He: “Rei, avunu ra. Chalo aameki chupisdam mana bike gurinchi” (Hey, yes re! Come on lets show her about our bike.)

You speed up, then there’s a speed-breaker, you slow down and obviously, so do I.

You: “Rei, too much competition istundi ra pori! Lite teesko, tanathone drive cheddam” (Hey, this lass is giving too much competition. Lets not bother, lets drive alongside her.)

Him: “Avunu ra. Hahaha!” (Yes re. Ha Ha Ha)

So, I just listen to it, have a good laugh and carry on.

I drive on roads that are not laid, just formed by themselves, on ditches and manholes. My ride is punctuated by 148 brakes, although it’s just a 500 m. stretch. (I’m not making these statistics up). And every 5 metres, there’s a street-light(namesake), full of wires illegally tapped/broken and loose/used for monkeys to climb. Free left is my fundamental unbound right. I put indicator, despite that you apparate out of nowhere and plonk yourself in front of me. I honk and my mother yells ,”Hey! Don’t annoy that driver by the horn! Obviously he will get irritated. If I were in his position, I’d be irritated too!” K I argue that he shouldn’t have blocked my left and mum and I have a row!

You’re crossing my side of the road, I’m not driving in the wrong direction. Obviously you should look this side and see if there’re any vehicles. You, like a genius, see if vehicles are coming on the other side of the road and cross! Of course I will hit you and of course you will fall down. I know that from here, from 10 metres away. Ok*screech*| *”UNCLE!”*| *you dramatically turn and realize the blunder* |*BAM!* | you fall, I fall, vehicle falls. What do you do? Get up, dust yourself and walk away, oblivious to the recent happenings! You don’t even help me! Nor do you apologize! How human are you?#

I’m driving coolly,on the left side of the road. You swish past me in that eye-sore yellow bike and stop right in front of me! You are blocking my way, OK. I draw your attention with the blaring horn. You absolutely don’t move! Wait, what do I see? Are those ear-phones? WHAT?? You plug your ears to listen to music/talk on the phone while driving?? WTF?!

Despite so much, I love driving. If you can drive in Hyderabad, I swear you can drive ANYWHERE in the world!

Back To School

"Do you know what the time is? Wake up and get ready fast!", yelled my aunt at my 12 year old niece. It was the beginning of class 8 for her. She slowly tossed on the bed, grumbling about the end of summer vacation, which included early rising. The minute I told her she can wear her new uniform and use fresh books, there was this sudden enthusiasm in her, and she jumped out of her bed. As she sprinted across, I saw the excitement with which she got ready for first day of school, absolutely not complaining about the weight of her bag, her amply oiled and plaited hair clearly not troubling her. She started throwing random instructions to people around, to bring her tie,school-belt, tie up the laces of her shoes, search for her i-Pod and earphones, scream out loud for not remembering to charge it the previous night and not forgetting to take her cell-phone. She instructed my aunt not to give her lunch, she was going to catch up with her friends at the school canteen. After a lot of hurrying, tying and untying ribbons, dumping her bag and throwing unwanted things out, yelling at her little brother for standing in the way and making sure her hair is in place by looking into the mirror several times, she finally bade us bye and left for school.

Looking at her, I was reminded of my school days, how my excitement reached the brink while getting ready for first day of school. It always included neatly pressed uniform, freshly covered notebooks and textbooks, a new bag almost every year, bright white socks and shiny black shoes. Not one thing would go wrong. Lunch was always pre-planned. I used to call up each one of my friends the previous day and we'd decide what each of us would bring for lunch. It was always a together affair. Back then, cell phones were a rarity. Only school principals, bank managers, bigheads of famous institutions and the like owned one. i-Pods,or mp3s actually, were a sign of having rich cousins who live abroad. The idea of going to school after three months was always very delighting. The thrill of a new class, a new time-table, new pens and books had no parallel. Having an Arts class, or the PT hour was on a Monday was envied upon. The moment we learned that our math teacher was Fun Ms. Lekha, our joy knew no bounds. The anticipation of a new hour, a new day and a brand new year would always kick in before the day of reopening and remain for a whole week. The momentum of the initial excitement would be pushed further after the announcement of the first holiday of the year. Slowly it'd be time for the assignments(that had to run into 20 pages, special marks for neat handwriting) followed by the mid-term tests and then the Quarterlies, Half-yearlies and then the pre-boards and finally, the boards. But those came with perks like Dussera vacation, Christmas vacation and Pongal leave. All our assignments had to be hand-written. Computer classes once every week would ensure 100% attendance on that day. Then there were cultural programmes for the school day, sports festival and the Science exhibition, one in each term. The entire school would participate in it. Every other week, there was an announcement about Essay writing competitions held by leading newspapers, painting, singing, dance competitions, you name it.

Suddenly, a loud noise broke my train of thoughts. My little nephew had started to cry and my aunt was busy with her chores. A brilliant idea struck me. I walked up to him and said, "If i tell you how interesting going to school is, will you stop crying?". A small smile appeared on his face, atleast there was no more noise!
It is never too late to reminisce about the old school days.

A leaf outta my book

You know its's gonna be a hot day the minute you wake up all sweaty and sticky. You wanna strip down to bare essentials and lie down, but thats when you realise you are not alone in the room, your roomie's fast asleep. And then you make up your mind to get your ass outta the bed and do some useful work. Every morning's resolution and every evening's joke :)
Anyway, just as you finish brushing your teeth and think you wanna have a nice cup of Tea, power cut! And you hear groans from the whole corridor, rumours about the power not coming back until 12(sometimes true!) Switch on the laptop, no wi-fi, no internet. So, next resolution, watch F.R.I.E.N.D.S for sometime and then do something useful. Switch on the laptop, play random episodes, laugh your heart out, after sometime "Your laptop has only 10% charge remaining. Connect to a source or save all your work and shut down the system!"
Next thing, got class in twenty minutes! Get ready asap, quickly bathe(or not :|) and walk all the way till the other end of the college, text ppl in class/hostel/other all the time, and on the way back to the hostel, pray that the power is back...
Get to the hostel, have lunch, oh hey power's back! Think to yourself, its too hot to study/do something useful. So you decide you'll get some sleep and THEN do something useful. So you sleep till Tea-time or wake up,charge your laptop and again watch something (cant help :P). Tea time, get some snacks and a hot beverage =D
An hour later, you go to your warden, show her your face and let her know that you havent moved your ass outta the freaking campus and then, sit and have a good chat with the other girls.
By the time you say bye bye, its dinner time! and then, you go out into the lawn with your friend and walk for a long long time, telling her about all the useless things of the day and crib about yourself.
Get back to the room once the dogs are let out to guard your hostel, decide what dress you're gonna wear tomorrow and then fall asleep...
Wake up next day with fresh a new resolution and then, power cut :)

20...

A very fine evening, not so sunny and not at all rainy, i made myself a hot cup of chai, random thoughts running in my head. One of the most recurring thoughts was that of achievement. I happened to glance at The Hindu's front page. Photo of a cute guy in Germany's jersey, jumping on another one wearing England's jersey... "Ah, another one of those goals and another team wins, again" i think to myself. And then i look at it again, wait... did they say 20?? Was he really only 20?!?! and then, my face went like this: 8-O
Serious analysis and the result was as follows:
At the age of 20,
  • A.R.Rehman : was in Illaiyaraja's troupe as a keyboard artiste, already a few rungs up the success ladder.
  • Sivamani : finished 9 yrs of his drumming career already!
  • J.K.Rowling : (I'm not quite sure if she was at 20 or 25) gets the idea of the story of a young boy attending a school of wizardry.
  • Saina Nehwal : well, the hat-trick of titles-Indian Open, Singapore Open and Indonesia Open.
  • Sania Mirza : wins the silver in Women's singles, gold in mixed doubles AND a Padmashri award!
  • Leo Tolstoy : started writing... :|
  • Thomas Mueller(the cute guy i mentioned, playing for Germany) : scores the fourth goal, beating England.
  • W.Shakespeare : is married to a lady called Anne Hathaway ;) :P
  • Robert Pattinson : famous for his role of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
  • Ranjitha Raghu : updates her blog three months after she's 20 :|

I'm sure there're many more people you can add to this list, but the fact remains that there's so much you can achieve before you're twenty, and a lot more AFTER 20 ;)

Cheers! :)

P.S.: Thanks to Venki, i did my homework :D

SO DIFFERENT!

There was peace.. there was bliss...it felt like heaven,it was perfect.nothing could go wrong.... And then, there was...NOISE!!! :X grrr.... i woke up with a start!the dream was so perfect!I was just gonna open that bar of crackle when the noise, which turned out to be my roommate, screaming biz she saw a rat in the room,happened... the door was wide open, the lights were turned on and there she was, standing on top of her bed with a broomstick in her hand, with less than 0% chances of chasing the rat from up there!i gulped down some water(to prevent awfully swearing at her) and then,we searched the entire room... the mouse(or was it a rat?never knew the difference though) was nowhere.when we were convinced it wasnt in the room anymore,we went back to sleep.
Now,as soon as i settled myself, the first thing i saw was my mobile. It was 2'15 in the morning... and there were....wait for it.... 7 msgs! whoa i was in demand,i thought to myself... i opened each msg one by one... the first one dint quite sink in.. what photocopy is she talking abt? the second one also dint make sense, all the best for what?! then,as i read the 4th,5th and 7th ones(dont ask me what the 3rd and 6th msgs were! ;P ) i realised it was a friday the next day... and I'D A FRIGGIN' EXAM ON SAT'DAY!!! and that,my dear friends,is when ron loses her senses...
the next three weeks(i know its very abrupt, but yea face it... i've to cut the crap!) were crazy!they went away in a haze!there were notes, photocopies, arbit crap abt lame things that help exchange heat between fluids(:| like i care....)..... and then,it was over!
Ah,the satdat the exams got over,i came straight to the room(the paper was awful!worse than an ES paper!!) and laughed. i laughed heartily!and then i gave my mind a break.later, when i was thinking abt one of the days during those three weeks, there was blurred vision of somebody telling me how things've changed so much, how so many ppl were so different blah blah blah.... and i suddenly remembered Varsha-how she's constantly pestered me to update my blog! so this is the result of that... :P
anyway, after exams the talk of the college was the upcomin techfest.there was so much of excitement for that!well... added attractions were the sports fest and the cultural fest! now,one would say every student must be so busy with so much going on in the college.there were hardly any free weekends here all of them are occupied with these fests, save one! so like every other person,i also wanted to do something to keep myself busy... i went to socialize with ppl i hadnt met in a while. ;) i did arbit almost insignificant work etc etc. but then, something was vaguely disturbing my mind.was it my hungry stomach?was it some freakin assignment?oh crap,i left my calc in the class... or wait, was it that incomplete dream where i dint finish my chocolate?i thought with all the thoughts i could think of....(wtf did i just blabber?) i thought for days and nights..
one day,i was sitting in the lawn watching my friends play a game of volleyball(i was too short for it) and then BAM!it hit the nail on the head! i was useless!i was jobless!i was vetti!i should be out there playing!i should do something with my life, not follow the mechanical routine!!! and that was when i held the bat... i mean the badminton racquet.. and that was when i decided i need to give it s shot.. literally! and thats how i played nicely everyday... :) throwball(someone doesnt like this game... but liked it that i was playing afterall!),dodge ball, badminton(not much!),kho-kho, kabaddi, sprained my ankle, yelled at ppl, came home and bathed... everyday! it felt nice... that finally i was doing something different... :) something i wanted to do always...
i liked it that i was doing something! not being vetti... i also liked it that "louuu" was in the air... so many new relationships in such short time. :P in like a week,i heard of not less than five new relationships!!! wow ppl had grown... :P
thanks for bearing with this load of BS!!! comments please.... :)

Change..

Ok.. It has been many days since Ron blogged.. I dunno why i stop suddenly! And one fine day, somebody says "blog updated" when i remember i also should.. :P
You know, thats the problem with pisceans-they're such pushovers! i am not proud of that but i'm just thinking why it never occurs to me that i should do things on my own-particularly things that i wanna do... It has always been me acting according to somebody else's whims and fancies. There were times when i gave up my biggest dreams for something very petty.I couldn't decide for myself.I lost so many things, owing to succumbing to other people's wishes.I then realized that was such a doormat!
It was around this time that i connected a lot with two very special friends of mine.We discussed so many things, one arbit day.We spoke and spoke about everything under the stars[;) it was night time and we were in the lawn].And that night,I decided that i was gonna wake up the next day morning all fresh and different.I wanted to stand on my own two little feet.Everyone has,at some point of time in their lives, faced the same situation as i did.It was not anything extraordinarily terrible.I wanted to show the world around me how things can get nasty when I'm used for the wrong reasons.
And I did! I succeeded in becoming a different person!I find waking up as early as six in the morning beautiful!i was one kid who could never wake up before 8.10 for class at 8.40!I realized how nice and smooth life can be when i do things that i want and get stuff I've always wanted. It payed off-my life was so lubricated!
And when i went home, there were my friends, who'd always known that someday I will realize what an idiot i was for 19 yrs! :P I'm thankful for the fact that I'm gifted to have friends who know me inside out... and who can say 20 yrs down the line,"RON!!! Oh my god,you look the same-short,but a little old!Oh you're so little I'd love to carry you on my back!".... for which I'd reply,"No thank you,I can stand on my own feet!"
:)

Peter Ron

This is very common stuff....
OK when i first stepped into SASTRA, for the first few days i was bowled by the language change!i mean its Tamil alright for all practical purposes... but whattha!!!at home,ma taught us to be strict tam brahm.... ;) it always used to be "Sollungol"or "kettelo?" or just generally "ennadu idu?"
but an yr into college and practical tamil there was "sollinga" or "kettiya?" and "inna?" respectively.. very tanjore slang ;) trust me i was whacked at home for using such language!atleast now, i know what to speak where and when... ;)
A few other things that i picked up there in two yrs are:
  • Kadalai-this is when u are talking very closely to a person of opposite gender... ;)
  • Mokkai-also called "sollu" in telugu(golt)... it means useless talk,or pj's.
  • Golt-the language "telugu" is called as golt down south.. ;)
  • Peter-this is by far the best!any guy/girl who apeks too much english is said to be petering!!(thanks to vivek for the mirinda ad)
  • Edward-this is a superlative of peter.... a walking oxford dictionary is called an edward.
  • Aarva Kolaru-in short an aako, actually is excitement... an aako is one who loves to do things just too perfectly!like a person who submits an assignment right on the date of submission is an aako...
  • Summa adurradu illa- ;) thanks to rajnikanth as sivaji, this is used practically by every soul there!!! obv u all know what it means...
  • Khhhhhhhhhhhh-now this, was propagated by us lot.it is just the collection of a lot of saliva whisch is accumulated at the throat and ready to be connoned at any person who has just done the gravest mistake of his life(i just petered a lot ;))
  • worsht-this is pretty common... just an emphasis to say that stuff is sad...
  • yela- now this is the pakka madurai tamil, its just a replacement of "dei" which is used to address friends.
  • Bulb-this is just used to pull ur leg... it means"haha look at u,dint get what u asked for"
  • Aappu-this means trouble ahead, like the thermo paper or the flumeach probs...
a few things i learnt from roomates are:-
  • oru neeshon iri-(from niru)meaning wait a min...
  • pakki pannadai-(from bunesh)a few showers of choicest blessings ;) means stupid, dumbass etc etc
  • olari kottade-(from pavitra)meaning dont blabber like hell
  • chen-chwenchy-(from bhavani)this is how u pronounce ten-twenty wen u have ulcers in ur mouth ;)
and the general stuff like macha, machi, verr verr dyetti(very very dirty) etc etc....

but seriously, i can never forget namma very own "lite teesko mama" or "ye vooru manadi" or "apna hyderabad hai,hum aiseech rehte"!!!!!!

comments please... dil kholke!

why, oh WHY!!!

ok, its that five lettered word all over again-the one that every student in the whole wide world loathes whole-heartedly... EXAMS...
why do we have to be tested?why should there be any such thing as exams?why should students be discriminated on the basis of scores?doesnt anyone,ANYone realise its time to realise other talents??? i mean, its gen N for heaven's sake!!!dont we students know our potential?cant we go out there, show the world what we are?can we not NOt have exams please?(you know what i meaan right?)
its so unbecoming of the management to do this to poor li'l us...
why cant we just be free birds???!!!
well never mind this post... its just a li'l girl whining and complaining abt exams... happens when u've an exam in five days... general mindset before and during exams....
ok if u've come this far then please do comment.... :P

of buses and sardars

has anyone ever experienced the most irritating thing on earth--driving on the left side of a bus along a long straight road where there are a million bus-stops along the path?many would have.... but not all would've experienced a situation where, there is a lone SARDAR riding his motorbike on your left... which means you are sandwiched between a bus and a sardar... gosh!hard to decide which one is more irritating!ok anyway.along the university road,i was riding away to glory when the sardar first spotted me.at a speed breaker,we both slowed down... and that was where he saw me.[:P]then we both sped at the same rate.i thought he was trying to show off... so i slowed down and he went firther... that was when the bus entered the play... gosh i kept following it for 3 freakin kilometres biz the thing kept stopping at every freaking(even remotely populated) bus stop!!! then i thought i SHOULD go to its right now... and i slowly start overtaking the bus from right when ,wat do i find--TADA!its the sardar!!!
grrr.... now i thought the bus was better... ok anyway,he saw me speeding and started blocking my way.i mean... i goes left and he goes left... i goes right and he goes right.... now he should've had eyes at the butt of his head,lol....biz he dint have a rear-view mirror then how the hell did he know which way i was going???yea anyway,i thought i should teach him civic sense... and i let him rule the road while he showed off his driving[over-action!>:( ] skills.then at a certain point,i took a left galli(lol,it is a chota diversion but it takes me home anyway)...this was exactly at the end of the looooong university road.and then i reached home safely.
sad i dint take his contact, els i would've surely texted him that i "reached safely thank u so much!"
yea meanwhile, the bus was far behind us and it lived happily ever after!!!
that there is an experience of most of the pretty wonderful girls of hyderabad.
.

LOL... i have hols!

Oh my God!
these days are holidays.....they are supposed to be fun and all.....we are supposed to enjoy every moment of these days,'coz we never got such days and never will kathey. So we aren't supposed to waste even a microsecond of these days kathey.lol it all sounds so good right?
but hey!look at us!everybody says the same thing,"Holidays are sooo boring"....i mean we have jobs yes,but not so interesting ones.these "jobs" include cleaning your room(oh no!),setting your books right(wat the heck!),ghar ki safaai(yew!gross!),dusting ur old unused bookshelves(uff!tiring) etc...hold it..this is just a jhalak into this world,if i have to list out the whole thing,it'll take 3k yrs for me to complete........... n 5k for u!
but there is no flip side alone for this....its got its own advantages and disadvantages.....when u r free(which u r s'posed to b always),u can actually catch up with all the movies u couldn't watch in college, read some of those amazing novels, watch TV(which i can neva do in coll!!) and the usual orkut, chat and blog.......now this looks like "the real holidays",right?
and all i've been doing is hog, meet frnds, hog, orkut, hog and yea sometimes practise music(wow!something that i love to do finally!),hog again,OMG....
well, i'll keep updating till i go back to SASTRA central jail...may be next time i can come up with something interesting!lol.......... :P

what DAKSH was for me

second sem for me was bad.i was put in this section where outta 60 i knew just 2 ppl!that was my bad luck, but in a way it was positive for me.like for instance, i made certain really good friends like dharma, harini, revathy, nandhini etc.....that aside,my subjects were damn boring-and cell biology was OMG too bad!! i couldnt understand one word of what my ma'am was teaching in class and eventually,i flunked it every single time.i started hating college so much!no old friends, alien subjects,no fun,i was just not myself.all this was from dec 2007 till mid feb 2008.new year's day was also just temporary.
and then it happened!
DAKSH came!!!!!
it is our college's annual tech-fest.it is the second largest tech-fest in south india.it was a time for us to throw open our minds for wild dreams and explore talents within us!it served as the the perfect platform for youngsters from various colleges to come out with their brilliant ideas.it was food for the hungry tech-savvy lot!
tech apart,it was fun for us.it was time to be together and enjoy each and every moment as it came by.we screamed,we played about,we lost the treasure hunt and what not!wow!what a life man those three days were!it is so true-u get DAKSHified automatically!just when i thought life was dry as a desert,DAKSH came and lubricated my life.and then i realised that college isnt all about just studies-its about making new friends, learning a million new things and cribbing more about ur subjects and staff to more number of ppl!!!:P
ok anyway, all this nostalgia is solely biz DAKSH'09 is coming up soon!and we're a part of the DAKSH'09 publicity campaign....
so all ye tech-wolves..... Come,Learn,Get Dakshified!!!!!
:)

right-ho!restart!

hmpfh!
i so don like this!thanks to my greatest memory power,i promptly forgot my password to the blog id that i created all for myself in the whole wide world! gosh... 23 posts all lost!!!i hate it!anyway,i keep hearing from mommy(and certain other gyaan sessions from aunties and uncles) that LIFE IS ALL ABOUT RESTARTING WHEN U LOSE SOMETHING.welllll, i now restart blogging and thank u for bearing with this crap of my first-again post. :)
ok so....home for sem hols now and not knowing what to do(all my friends've either got college or other better things to do), i thought i could rack my brain cells for sometime, lest they get rusted!and thanks to Bharat, who reminded me about this.
well,i aint exactly got sleepless nights.nor do i have anything thats troubling me day in and day out.nor do i have any job exactly to do during these hols.so,reading this, any species belonging to homo sapiens can say that life's just going fine.anyone except those belonging to....,with due respects...., SASTRA university!
well,Ranjitha Raghu has an end semester exam on the last day of holidays biz the originally scheduled exam was cancelled thanks to the Cyclone Nisha!so,what do i have to do during sem hols??? STUDY! lol, which place on earth would do this!anyway, as usual i am currently following the funda-tinnaamaa,padukunnaamaa,tellarindaa!biz studying for an exam is,in student life, done precisely one night before the day of the exam.so i gotta go earlier and clean up the room for my other roomies to come after they've enjoyed two extra days of hols, thanks to us lot!
hmmm, thats about what much i can say about my university with all the respect it demands. ;P and now, i wish u could hear my mom screaming her head off at me,asking me to un-glue myself to the system(please overlook the minute grammatical errors here)
right-ho guys... see you again in my next blog... ta!
